I was talking to Fran today, and said "Bullocks!" in the conversation. It didn't occur to me (until after I sent the message) that the English slang that has worked its way into my vocabulary (thanks to the likes of Guy Richie and Nick Hornby) is only useful when I'm talking to Americans. In all other contexts, it just looks like I'm a wannabe. I mean, that's true, but it's not why I use those phrases--when you hear someone say something like "bugger off" enough, you say it too, regardless of whether or not you desperately want to live in their country.
I'd also like to point out that I was about to conclude this post by saying "Okay, don't read this shite..."
But then I realized that I was totally proving my own point. How sad.
