When I look around
I think 'this, this is good enough.'
And I try to laugh
at whatever life brings.
Cuz when I look down
I just miss all the good stuff,
and when I look up
I just trip over things.

Except, thanks for sharing Ani with me. She's strong and I like her for that."

"Part of me holds out a secret hope that you will end up here instead. But Ani! I cannot rip that away from you even in my most self-indulgent and jealous fantasies. If she plays Grey you are required to cry me a river, literally."

I returned tonight, and the first thing everyone asks me is "Is she what you expected?"
Everything and more.
I'll be runnin' away to Gainesville
with a rowboat and a pretty girl
like there's something round the corner
good enough to swim for.
In my dreams I won't go faster
just to save a little daylight.
I deserve to smile
but it's been a while
so I won't give up this time.

Two shopping days left 'til Travis! I bought cereal and whole milk so the boy would feel right at home, except I can't make it snow outside. (I consider this a good thing for Florida.)
Travis: it's supposed to be cold this weekend, but "cold" to me must mean "light jacket" to you.
Comments:
"You do realize, Nicole, that for Travis to feel "at home" you need to bring him cappuccino in the morning...I'm not saying he's spoiled, but....you kids have a good time...don't forget to call me to let me know he landed safely, ok?"
-The Mom [2002-11-07 08:14:46]
"(don't tell him, but I don't know how to make cappucino!) But I promise that we'll call. My mom wants a call to know he landed safely, too, actually :)"
-Nic [2002-11-07 08:45:16]
"Ok...it'll be our little secret till I can teach you how!! ;)"
-The Mom [2002-11-07 14:01:20]
"Do you need a special machine to make it? I like cappuccino myself but I really don't know what's in it exactly :)"
-Nic [2002-11-07 17:15:56]
"Giiirl, just buy the Folgers instant latte', and he'll never know. Well, if you gave him a cappuccino in the afternoon, maybe, but bless his heart, Travis doesn't know much when he's sleepy."
-D* [2002-11-07 18:22:24]
"I know about when he's sleepy. Sometimes I call (and wake him up) when I'm on my way to my first class, and he later has no recollection of that conversation. But should I dare mess with Travis and his coffee? :)"
-Nic [2002-11-07 20:28:28]
""...dare mess with Travis and his coffee..."
Sorry. He gets that from me. Or, we both get it from Mom."

Read this only if you know enough about programming to recognize how damn funny it is.
Read the first page, and you'll end up reading all 22. I did. (backstory)
Comments:
"Sad, very sad...not just for the 3 professors, but the shooter, too. He really should not have been in such an intense program with all the other issues he had going on in his life... It also sounds like he had an unhealthy case of acting like a victim going on...poor me, look what I'm going through...can't we bend the rules a bit? Life is hard, no one ever said it was going to be a breeze...and basically all he did was prove that everyone he thought was wrong....was right in the end. Sad"
-Your Mom [2002-11-03 21:19:53]
"I didn't get that from it at all. I certainly don't think his position warrented his actions, but someone definitely should have reconized where his path was taking him and stepped in. He was in need of help, and no one bothered to try giving it to him. Granted, he was probably an asshole, which doesn't really facilitate someone's desire to invest effort into you, but I think the school faculty and staff has a responisibility to keep an eye out for people who are so obviously disturbed."
-trav [2002-11-03 22:51:42]
"Disturbed..hmm. Trying to look at it from a prosecutor's point of view, the guy was rational. He knew what he was doing every step of the way. The things he did were obviously premeditated. Basically he was a murderer and was trying to use his past to excuse what he did, it was what he needed to justify his act. He chose to kill those people seeing it as some sort of revenge. It was a conscience decision.
Life happens, everyone has problems but to blame others for your problems and deny responsibility is just a cop out. I don't think the guy was disturbed, nah he was as lucid as you or me. He was just a murderer, like the kind you see in prison systems, only he chose to take himself out. It's like he said about saving taxpayers money.
I guess it's easier to think that a person MUST have been or IS Disturbed to do such a thing. But in reality they're just everyday joes that made a decision. "

"I don't think he was trying to excuse what he did, I agree that he knew what he was doing, and knew that it was wrong. I think the point of the letter was to point out a lot of people who dropped the ball--and I think they did.
What he did was not right, not by any stretch, but I think it could have been prevented if someone would have bothered."
-trav [2002-11-04 01:53:44]
"This is what I think: he was a depressed man didn't get help, for whatever reason -- blame him or the people around him -- and finally teetered over the edge into the kind of insanity that deep depression can bring. I don't think he is as rational as he so strongly claims. Rational people question their sanity -- the insane think they're perfectly rational."

"He definitely suffered from a deep depression and saw this as a way out. Sad that not one of the Nursing professors noticed the classic signs of the depression."
