Thanks to the help of a soldering iron and some other assorted gadgetry, I got my 2600 working tonight and I was once again rockin' out to the sounds of Pitfall and Pacman.

So, when Lauren was set to go in for service for the seventh time, HP just decided to offer me a new notebook. The replacement, however, didn't have Linux compatible hardware, so that was out. In the end, HP gave me $900, and I priced out an iBook. I'd like you all to meet Suw (pronounced "soo").
I got her a couple weeks ago, but I haven't had time to post about it until now. She's named after a friend from England with an awesome name.
- 12" LCD, 1024x768
- 800MHz G4 (256KB L2/133MHz FSB)
- 640MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM
- Airport Extreme wireless (802.11g)
- 60GB Ultra ATA HD
- 32MB dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon 9200
- 24x10x24 CD-RW/8x DVD-ROM Combo drive
- More sexiness than a pornstar in a skirt

"Rawr! I want to lick."
"Hello Suw! I prefer desktop machines for the power to price ratio; however, I must admit that Suw is a suweet little computer. On a side note, Highpoint makes two versions of the same RAID controller. Each one with a different chipset (model number is the same). One chipset has FreeBSD drivers, the other doesn't. Grr, eh?"
"When it comes to price/performance ratio, I prefer desktop machines, too, but with my laptop, my life exists inside an email client, a browser, and an ssh session. For that, an 800MHz G4 is more than enough. ;)
Bummer about the RAID array. My BSD box at home doesn't use RAID--I need all the space I can get, and I don't have the money to think about redundancy right now."
