I was reading about my allergy medication (I did actually read the entire little informative doctor-warning bit that came with it), and when I got down to the "Adverse Reactions" section, things got funny.
The following events were observed infrequently (less than 2%), in either 3982 adults and children 12 years and older or in 659 pediatric patients aged 6 to 11 years ... including an open adult study of six months duration. Well, at least it took four times the recommended dose to give mice tumors.

They're starting to loosen up with the number of Gmail invites, so I have some to spare. If you'd like a Gmail account, leave a comment, and I'll see what I can do.

I'm taking a course right now that, among other things, covers ethical issues in the use of technology. I hate classes like this, and until now, I couldn't quite nail down why.
I find myself repeatedly thinking, "This would be a great conversation between me and the professor, if it weren't for the rest of the damn class."
Bear with me for a minute, while I clearly define something you already know. When it comes to conversations requiring higher cognitive thoughts and judgment calls, you tend to be more careful about who is on the other side of the conversation. Nobody likes having such a conversation with someone who is ignorant, because nothing is gained from it. Having a conversation with someone who has well thought-out points, good reasons and solid logic is helpful in showing you points of view you might not have thought about before, and can strengthen your own opinions.
Having a conversation with someone who is ignorant is just annoying.
Now, back to my point. A class like this forces you to have these kinds of conversations with someone who's an idiot, simply because (class_size%you == class_size%them) and they ended up in your work group.
I don't like being forced to educate someone on a topic so I can have a conversation with them, when I ordinarily wouldn't bother to do so, particularly when they wooden-headedly maintain their ignorant standpoint.

"Elitist behavior? By the same token it's hard to deal with the feeling of feeling stupid when someone like you has to explain things knowing that you resent them for it. "
-bianca [2004-06-20 23:26:58]
"No, it's no more elitest than saying you don't want to build a house with a baker, because he'll just hold you back. I'm not saying I'm better than them, just more well-read in certain areas. I'm sure they wouldn't want to talk with me about some subject I'm not well versed in, either. I agree that in such situations, the other person feels stupid, and I don't enjoy that at all, either. Having a conversation with someone who's uncomfortable is just as unenjoyable. I'm not saying I'm better/smarter/more valuable than they are, I'm just saying that I don't like being forced into a conversation that neither one of us would otherwise be comfortable having."

Please, I beg you: everybody chip in and buy me one of these. This is the gadget... nearly every day have I prayed that SOMEONE would make a thing like this. And Apple has delivered. I have to have one of these. I have to have one!
"They both believe any action is justifiable in the name of God."
- A White House aide, about G. W. Bush and John Ashcroft
"In the name of Allah, I do not have anything to plea."
- Zacarias Moussaoui, indicted on four charges in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks
"Can't you people see? What are you, morons? There are a ton of different religious traditions out there, and different cultures worship Me in different ways. But the basic message is always the same: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Shintoism... every religious belief system under the sun, they all say you're supposed to love your neighbors, folks! It's not that hard a concept to grasp."
"Why would you think I'd want anything else? Humans don't need religion or God as an excuse to kill each other—you've been doing that without any help from Me since you were freaking apes!" God said. "The whole point of believing in God is to have a higher standard of behavior. How obvious can you get?"
"I'm talking to all of you, here!" continued God, His voice rising to a shout. "Do you hear Me? I don't want you to kill anybody. I'm against it, across the board. How many times do I have to say it? Don't kill each other anymore—ever! I'm fucking serious!"
- God

"I knew someone who thought that Onion article was crap. He said obviously God liked killing people, as evidenced all throughout the Bible. I think that guy may have been an undercover agent for a right wing extremist psychotic group."

I'm listening to Al Franken's book, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right (Which I did steal from the internet. I don't think Al would mind.) This is possibly one of the funniest books I've ever read... or, actually I'm listening to it audio book style, but still... I intend to steal more of his books soon. Thanks, Al.
